Leather or cloth ballet slippers?

Which are better for turnning? (not too slippery, not too sticky)

and what brand would you recommend?

Thanks you!

Leather or cloth ballet slippers?
I actually recommend buying two pairs of ballet slippers, one for normal rehearsal and one for regular practise. I do this, and I find that my slippers are more presentable (=]) when I bring a newable pair to performances but I can still work my feet out during practise.

If you have not been dancing ballet for a long time, then I recommend buying a leather full sole pair of ballet slippers. Having a full sole makes your feet work harder and this helps you to build feet and ankle strength, which helps in things like pirouettes (turns).

From what I%26#039;ve heard, many people like canvas ballet slippers more because they have more grip on the ground, cling to your arch and are washable. These are all true. However, the canvas material does not last as long as the leather.

I think Bloch has a pair of leather ballet slippers with a canvas insert at the arch, which I think it pretty good. That way, they slippers will be more durable, but will still show off your arch. Also, split sole shoes tend to show the arch and instep more.

At my studio, it is recommended that up to Grade Five, ballet students should wear full sole leather slippers in order to build strength. Maybe you could try that, and when you get to a higher level you can experience with more types of shoes.

Anyway, if you%26#039;re unsure, you can always ask your ballet teacher for her advice, or ask the advice of the storekeepers at your local dance store.
Reply:Leather or canvas! Cappezio are the best... They have new ones that are leather and have a stretchy wet suit sides. They are so comfy! Also get split soles
Reply:It depends a lot on the skill level you are at. I recomend leather if your newer to ballet, because it really helps you develop a good pointe. However I really like canvas (cloth) because it helps to %26quot;feel%26quot; the floor.

I would suggest Leo%26#039;s leather slipper, or a bloch canvas. Sansha is good too, but it tends to have a %26quot;bump%26quot; that takes getting used too. If you get leather stick with a full sole, if your going with canvas get the split soles.

Edit: I dont say it to be rude, but you seem to think that the ballet slippers will help you with your turning. They wont, it needs to come from your turn out and your calf muscles. However split soles are easier to work with. Level 4, are you checcetti? I was training as Balanchine and Vaganova (checcetti for about 6 months).

Good Luck!
Reply:Leather (Cappezio)
Reply:Always go with split sole, you%26#039;ll be hard pressed to find someone who says otherwise! I personally prefer leather, they look nicer and last longer. I really like the Bloch s02 leather split sole.
Reply:I favor canvas. Capezio has good shoes, too, but my favorite brand is Sansha split sole.
Reply:i like the canvas ALOT better than leather

but they rip and get VERYYY dirty quickly

leather lasts longer!
Reply:I recommend Sansha Canvas ballet shoes. They are SO comfortable and they are the best for turning, because the soles are kind of slippery. But you don%26#039;t fall over because of the canvas.

The ones I have are these: http://www.the-ballet-shop.com/ProductIm...

They are awesome :) Split soles, are better as well!

Good Luck :)
Reply:Split and you should get whatever your dance school says. If they don%26#039;t get canvas ( cloth)
